Revolution-ZERO provides specialist surgical textiles designed for reuse with zero waste, zero carbon targeted manufacturing and reprocessing services. At end of clinical life these items are repurposed for other uses or recycled. Revolution-ZERO has the potential to save the NHS £28 million whilst providing a more effective service that prevents the negative environmental impact of PPE and other surgical textiles. The other benefits of Revolution- ZERO includes UK job and income creation, decreasing health inequalities through community based repurposing initiatives, habitat restoration, transferability across the NHS (staff and patients) and into related and wider markets/regions. |

Revolution-ZERO in partnership with the University of Southampton and University College of London are developing a suite of tools that has the potential to save more than 190,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions and £90 million in costs per year for the UK NHS compared to 2023. They are doing this through developing novel chemistry and protocols for the wash processes that will allow for lower temperature and more effective cleaning of medical textiles. They are concurrently developing the next generation of cleaning and disinfection validation technologies utilising advanced microbiological analysis and a new in wash marker system paired with machine vision (AI) techniques. |
