Ibisvision Ltd

Project Stroke Rehab Vision testing
Description

Visual impairment is a major consequence of stroke yet specialist assessment is often not available in a timely manner.

Solution: telemedicine platform enabling eye-specialists to attend stroke patients via a video and data link so they can be assessed remotely on the stroke unit / in the community.

IbisVision already has a tele-optometry platform that enables a clinician to establish a secure link with their patient in real-time. The main benefit of the current system is that it automatically adjusts the scale of the images on the screen to precisely match the patient's position, thus they are unrestrained and able to sit in a comfortable relaxed position for assessment rather than having to contort themselves into a position to suit the test. This attribute is an ideal starting point for stroke victims.

The project: 1) To optimise the existing platform so that it can be used by stroke patients with mild to severe impairments. To do this we will look at how stroke victims are best able to interact with the assessments and make responses to the system- mouse movement, button clicking, verbal communication etc and we will modify the platform to accommodate the widest range of users. 2) We will put two exemplar stroke vision tests onto the platform, visual field test and eye movement test. The team also believe it will be possible to combine these two tests into a single rapid low-stress assessment suitable for patients who might be emotionally unstable and easily fatigued as is typical of brain injury.

Project Home-based virtual therapy platform to increase therapeutic activity and improve quality of movement for stroke patients
Description

EvolvRehab is a clinically validated CE marked therapy software platform which augments traditional rehabilitation services and improves user motivation and adherence for treatment of neurological, cognitive and age-related conditions.

It uses Virtual Reality, computer vision technology and gamification to provide personalised rehabilitation right in patients’ homes.

EvolvRehab runs on the purpose-built Rehabkit hardware solution with the Microsoft Azure Kinect camera sensor using AI for precise body tracking.  It connects to the patient’s TV and internet, started using a single button, and has minimal space requirements.

Already trialed successfully as a telerehabilitation tool with stroke survivors at the UCL Queens Square Upper Limb Clinic, Evolv will include a new training module to assist stroke patients in improving upper limb movement quality through guided virtual exercises and exergames and remotely provide therapists with key metrics on patient performance and adherence.
