Zilico Ltd
Project | New approach for immediate pain free diagnosis of oral cancers |
---|---|
Description |
Electrical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) uses alternating current at varying frequency to measure the impedance of tissue in-vivo. The magnitude of impedance and the dependence on frequency are both functions of the tissue composition. Measuring the impedance of cells across a range of frequencies will generate a spectrum that is characteristic of the biological tissue. Changes in the impedance spectrum can therefore be directly related to changes in the underlying nature of the tissue. Visual indicators of disease can be misleading or non-apparent and so a non-visual method is needed. Using EIS it is possible to differentiate tissue types and detect dysplasia in real time, even when the cell changes cannot be detected optically. |
