Project | The OptNIVent telehealth system |
---|---|
Description |
Developing in association with Aintree University Hospital, OptNIVent, to optimise non-invasive ventilation during palliation. Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a progressive disease that attacks the nervous system where messages gradually stop reaching muscles including those which help us breathe, often resulting in the need of a ventilator for the last 18-24 months of life. The OptNIVent telehealth system enables more frequent ventilation management, down from once every 3-4 months to once per week if necessary and without increasing the number of clinicians involved. The improvement means less anxiety for patients and the regular health checks, recorded on the system, help clinicians to intervene earlier to prevent illnesses from developing. |
